Meet the owners of Sundog Outfitters and your guides - Jim and Jenny:

Jim Little and Jenny Martindale, Sundog's owners and chief guides, possess a deep passion for their home, the Canadian North, and will lead you into the wilderness on a fun, safe and educational excursion for an unforgettable experience.

Jim and Jenny have the skills that enable them to teach you how to confidently get around in the bush or on the water safely and comfortably.

Jim is a certified canoe tripping and moving water instructor with the Ontario Recreational Canoeing Association (ORCA) and is a certified first aid instructor with Sirius Wilderness First Aid.  He is also a part-time instructor at Laurentian Univeristy in the Outdoor Adventure Leadership Program.  Jim's easy-going attitude and often hilarious antics make him one fun guy to be around.

Jenny is an ORCA certified canoe tripping and moving water leader.  Since 2000, she has guided dozens of canoe trips on the lakes and rivers of Northeastern Ontario and feels most at home hanging out in the wilderness.  She currently sits on the Board of Directors for Partners in Eco-Adventure Tourism (PEAT), a northeastern Ontario-based eco-adventure tourism network,  and is a graduate of the Ecotourism Management Program at Sir Sanford Flemming College.

Jenny and Jim share their life with their two sons Finley (3) and Riley (born October 2007).

For the 2008 season, they have decided to take a break from Sundog and take advantage of some quality family time and therefore outfitting services will not be offered in 2008.

 JIM AND JENNY'S ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

Jim and Jenny hold nature dear to their hearts and like to tread lightly upon this earth so they keep their impact low and experiences high.

Jim and Jenny strive to promote the highest environmental consciousness in mind, body and soul. They are dedicated to the preservation of Canada's natural environment, and strive to foster appreciation for its ecological integrity as well as teach environmental sensitivity by example in every way possible.

Here is an example of the environmentally-friendly commitments Jenny and Jim have made to their everyday lifestyle:

They live off-grid in a locally-grown and built solar-powered log cabin

They manage their own waste with an indoor composting toilet, a big veggie compost pile and recycle what they can.

They grow their own organic veggies in the summer

They save rain-water for watering the garden

They heat with wood (harvested from their own property) in a highly efficient wood stove

They heat water with an on-demand propane hot water heater

They invested in their own drilled water well

They wear lots of second hand clothing and have furnished their house with a lot of second hand furniture

Their 2-year old son has worn cloth diapers since he was born

They invested in a front loading washing machine

They DON'T have a clothes dryer, microwave oven, hair dryer, or anything electric that has a heating element

They use a human powered push lawn mower

The buy local organic eggs, meat and veggies from a local small business

They prefer to eat at Downtown Sudbury locally owned restaurants instead of large corporately-owned franchises

Please take a minute and think about what you can do EVERYDAY
to help keep our beautiful home, EARTH, healthy and thriving!
