Basecamp Programs & Wilderness Retreats:


 

 

Join us at our basecamp nestled unobstusively in the heart of nature.  The Sundog Retreat Centre is available for private bookings and can accommodate up to 12 people. Full catering is available.  

Whether it's an organized workshop or private gathering, the Sundog basecamp offers a unique setting that will create a memorable experience.  Events that have been offered at Sundog in the past include meditation, yoga and drumming retreats as well as wom ens'weekend getaways.  It is an ideal and affordable gathering space for groups, friends and families.


 

 


Wilderness Yoga Retreat


At our peaceful and accessible base camp on Simmons Lake, participants stay for 2 nights in our unique eco-tent accommodation while learning the art of this ancient technique that enhances the mind, body and spirit and connects you with your natural surroundings. Nutritious gourmet vegetarian meals are served, at the log cabin on the shores of the lake and there will be plenty of opportunity to take nature walks, canoe, relax, birdwatch and socialize with other participants throughout the retreat. Facilitated by a certified Yoga Instructor.

Sudbury Discoveries Day Adventures 


Sundog Outfitters is a proud member of Sudbury Discoveries, a local partnership that offers an array of fun and interesting day adventures within and around Greater Sudbury.

Step lightly into the rugged Canadian Shield and learn about the natural and cultural history of the area. Your senses will hone into the wonders of nature as your spirit connects to the natural world.


 Paddling Paradise in the Vermillion River Delta Forest Reserve


Escape the bustle of the city on this paddling tour of one of Sudbury's most lush and divers ecosystems.

Picture yourself canoeing amongst an ecological paradise. A provincially significant wetland, the Vermillion River Delta is home to a huge diversity of flora and fauna. Learn about the importance of wetland habitat and explore its meandering creeks and hidden ponds with an experienced guide...the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon! 

Groups over 3 people are welcome to book this tour, depending on availability of Sundog guiding staff and canoes. This tour is suitable for beginner paddlers and families comfortable with being on the water.

Tour includes: Approximately 2.5 hours paddling time with an experienced guide, all paddling and safety gear.

Prices:
Adult (over 18 yrs): $15.00
Youth (12 - 17 yrs): $10.00
Please inquire about family rates.
Youth and children must be accompanied by an adult
Tour is unsuitable for children under 6 years unless parent or guardian is an experienced paddler.

Tour departs: 1pm
Please bring: water shoes, water bottle, bug shirt/repellent, sun screen, sun hat, sun glasses, camera and binoculars, rain gear, change of clothes (dress for the weather), bathing suit (optional), snacks.

 


Full Moon Paddle in the Vermillion River Delta Forest Reserve


Join Sundog in canoes on the waters of Simmons Lake and witness in awe the rise of the full moon. Wildlife viewing and birding opportunities abound! This area is a birdwatcher's and naturalist's paradise. An experienced, certified guide will be with the group at all times. Enjoy a traditional sauna or roast marshmallows and wieners, tell stories and socialize by the lakeside campfire following the paddle.

2007 DATES: July 29 @ 8:30pm, August 28th @ 7:45pm.

This tour is offered to persons over 18 years of age. Start times vary according to moon rise.

 


Lakeside Yoga in Nature


Find balance amongst the trees and reconnect with yourself and nature during this revitalizing and grounding afternoon lakeside yoga class, outdoors, in a serene, natural setting.

DATES: To be determined
PRICE: $20.00 per person
TIME: 2:30 - 5:00pm 
Refreshments and social time to follow.

This 2 hour class, suitable for all levels, will be taught by a certified yoga teacher and will include meditation/relaxation sessions at beginning and end of class.

Imagine fresh air, sparkling waters, lapping waves, rustling leaves, singing birds and frogs - the sounds and sights of nature will enhance your yoga practice beyond your expectations.

Sustainable Living at Sundog Outfitters


As we develop our base camp on beautiful Simmons Lake, we will be inviting the public to various workshops
covering environmental topics such as Solar Power, Composting Toilet Systems, rainwater and greywater
catchment systems, backyard gardening, and alternative building projects to name a few. As these projects
will be on-going, if you would like to be kept abreast of our events and workshops, please email us at

Sustainable Living Tours:

Using the Sundog basecamp as a demonstration site, this tour will delve into the benefits of solar power an an alternative energy source as well as other sustainable living technologies and skills including composting toilets, greywater and rainwater catchment systems and organic gardening...all for the betterment of our health and environment. Visitors are welcome to drop in anytime for a tour, however it is suggested to call ahead to ensure someone is available on site.
